The SPI Business Concept
The main programme of the SPI is the design and manufacture of platinum group metal (PGM) jewellery. Small PGM jewellery manufacturing enterprises and individuals are housed at the centre - either physically or virtually. This process is called incubation. Tenants' applications follow a three-step process of selection and initiation before approval.
- They must present the initial business idea
- Start off with the Centre as a project
- Graduate to become a Centre Tenant, when all business systems are put in place and the business is making an income
Once the business is set up, they become paying tenants of the centre. Because the business can now make its own income, they are charged rental fees on a sliding scale as their businesses grow for the services they receive at the centre.
2. Incubation is expected to take 3 years after which time a business must be able to operate independently
