Getting started
If you have no experience of jewellery design and manufacture, the incubator recommends that you fill this gap in your knowledge before approaching us to start your business.
SPI has no training courses of its own and has partnered with Orbit Further Education and Training (FET) College as a service provider in North West province. Orbit teaches aspiring jewellers skills in jewellery production. The training is in line with other Centres of Excellence in the jewellery industry around the world. Who can be admitted to the course?
To apply for the jewellery training programmes at Orbit FET College, the following conditions must be met by the applicant:
- Grade 9, with mathematical literacy
- Good communication and coordination skills
- A passion for design and art
- Creativity and energy
The Qualification:
The certificate you will be studying towards is a National Certificate in Jewellery Manufacture in a Mass Production Environment
The entire curriculum consists of four (4) main categories of learning:
- Communication
- Mathematical, physical, computer and life science
- Core
- Training
In order to complete the course, you will have to study and train for a period of 64 weeks (approximately 15 months). Once this is complete and you have met all the skills requirements to qualify as jewellery, you receive your certificate.
