The focus of the SPI is to ensure that young entrants into the trade, who are often historically disadvantaged South Africans, can take advantage of business ownership and income opportunities resulting from their training.
As its major goal, the SPI provides mentorship and help young entrepreneurs to start their own jewellery design and manufacturing ventures. This is the reason special preference is given to small and micro enterprises established by graduates to become tenants of the incubator. Small enterprises within the Centre are involved in a variety of jewellery manufacturing services such as designing, finishing, polishing and setting.
